JEE MAINS & NEET IMPORTANT UPDATES & EFFECTS OF CORONA VIRUS PANDEMIC ON JEE-NEET PREPARATION

Joint Entrance Examination – Main (JEE-Main), formerly All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE), is an examination organised by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in India Introduced in the year 2002 and renamed in April 2013, this national level competitive test is for admission to various undergraduate engineering and architecture courses in institutes accepting the JEE-Main score, mainly National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIITs) and Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs).

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate) (NEET (UG)), succeeded from All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) is an entrance examination in India for students who wish to study undergraduate medical courses (MBBS) and dental courses (BDS) in government or private medical colleges and dental colleges in India. The undergraduate NEET (UG), for MBBS and BDS courses, is currently conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), which provides the results to the Directorate General of Health Services at the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.[2] Prior to 2019, the test was administered by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in partnership with Prometric Testing Pvt Ltd headquartered in the US.[3] NEET-UG replaced the All India Pre Medical Test (AIPMT) and all individual MBBS exams conducted by states or colleges themselves in 2013. However, many colleges and institutes had taken a stay order and conducted private examinations for admission to their MBBS and BDS courses.

Earlier, JEE MAINS AND NEET were organised in the first week of April and last week of May respectively. But due to the coronavirus pandemic, this year’s exam was postponed to July.
But due to pandemic, there is a large effect on the methods of preparation methodology of JEE & NEET. Digital platforms have taken place of coaching institutes. This will be the first time when all the students are preparing from home. Preparation at home for some students seemed disturbing while some of the students were quite comfortable with preparation at home.

For enhancing the preparation for students of JEE & NEET, Ministry of Human Resources has launched an app for mock tests called NATIONAL TEST ABHYAAS APP (Available on Google Play Store and iOS store). The app has received a quite satisfying response from the students. More than 15 lakhs of students are using this app. From these 15 lakhs students, 45% of them belong to semi-urban & rural areas. This app is available in both Hindi & English language.

As there is a rapid rise in coronavirus infections, CBSE & ICSE Boards have cancelled their remaining board examinations. Consequently, students are also demanding to defer JEE & NEET and give both exams new dates. Many questions are being asked to Minister of Human Resources Shri Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank on social media to clarify about JEE & NEE. But there is no response from the officials. Hashtags like #PostponeJEE&NEET, #Healthoverexams are trending on Twitter (A social media platform).

According to some news sources, there is a little chance of postponing of JEE & NEET exams. Officials are eying the July dates as final dates. To organise exams, NTA & MHRD officials are holding regular review meetings and preparing guidelines for safety & well being of students. Some officials said that there will be an increase in the number of shifts in JEE-Mains while for NEET there will be half number of students in a hall so that there is less chance of crowding. However final call yet to be taken on 3rd of July.
