Tiktok ban in India-59 Chinese app ban in India:--------

India bans Chinese apps amid simmering tension with China. The IT ministry has banned 59 Chinese-owned applications, including TikTok, ShareIt, UC Browser, Likee, WeChat, and Bigo Live. The Ministry stated they were “prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, the security of the state and public order.”

The move came in the backdrop of a current stand-off along the Line of Actual Control in Ladakh with Chinese troops. Criticism and backlash from Indian authorities against Chinese applications have been ongoing. This marks the largest sweep against the Chinese technology companies.

For banning all these 59 Apps, The Ministry used Section 69A of the Information Technology Act.

There have been raging concerns on aspects relating to data security and safeguarding the privacy of 130 crore Indians. It has been noted recently that such concerns also pose a threat to sovereignty and security of our country. The Ministry of Information Technology has received many complaints from various sources including several reports about the misuse of some mobile apps available on Android and iOS platforms for stealing and surreptitiously transmitting users’ data in an unauthorized manner to servers which have locations outside India. The compilation of these data, its mining and profiling by elements hostile to national security and defence of India, which ultimately impinges upon the sovereignty and integrity of India, is a matter of very deep and immediate concern which requires emergency measures.”

After banned on these Apps the apps will uninstall automatically or not ??????

While the orders have been issued today, it may take some time for the app and play stores to act on them. The government order will apply not just to new downloads but will also cover the already downloaded apps that have been banned. Those who have already downloaded these apps will not be able to use them as they will all be deactivated. However, the Government is not putting a ban on these apps on Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

Later, the Government confirmed that there are no orders passed as to block these apps from being available to the Indian users. This means the apps will stay on the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store until they do not break any of the terms and conditions set by Google and Apple.
